Summary

The use of radiopharmaceuticals in medicine, primarily focused to diagnose diseases such as cancer, heart disease and brain disorders has spread dramatically in hospitals and research institutes in nuclear medicine, thanks to technological advances such as computed tomography via PET ( Positron Emission tomography ), SPECT (single - photon emission computed tomography ), ? - camera (gamma camera), among others. The demand for these drugs has led to the creation of new techniques (more secure, efficient and less costly) for radioisotope production.

In this technological research project we propose to install a particle accelerator, cyclotron type, capable of accelerating protons or light ions at energies in the range of at least 30-70 MeV and produce at least a dozen of commercial radiopharmaceuticals; this device would have the ability to extract six beamlines for its use in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and also with ample opportunity to produce technological innovations in instrumentation, medicine, electronics and physical computing systems, among others. In addition, it is contemplated to provide diagnosis and cancer treatment though the installation of scanners (PET and Gamma Cameras).
